“INTRO TO LIT” (3 credits)

(Pre-requisite=eligible for English 101)
Students will learn about human nature, passion, and the majesty of creative imagination through close reading of literature. We will study and interpret the major genres of creative writing — fiction, poetry, drama, and prose. You will also create your own movie-adaptation of your favorite literary work!

ENGLISH 150-DY “COLLEGE NEWSPAPER”
W 12:30-1:20pm, Room 2973, 1 credit
(NO PRE-REQUISITE)
All Truman students are welcome to join as extra-curricular staff members of Uptown Exchange, our college newspaper, or enroll formally in the class for one credit (limit: four semesters). Staff members learn about all aspects of newspaper production while picking up specific skills in editorial work, design, or business administration.
ENGLISH 151-C “NEWS REPORTING & WRITING”
M&W 11am-12:20pm, Room 2973, 3 credits
(Pre-requisite=English 101)
This class teaches the fundamentals of reporting and writing the news. Student journalists craft local stories relevant to the Truman College and Uptown community. Students learn real-world skills in research and the craft of writing, to tell stories worth publishing and reading.
ENGLISH 153-C “JOURNALISM”
M&W 11am-12:20pm, Room 2973, 3 credits
(Pre-requisite=English 151)
Building on English 151 news instruction, this advanced course teaches how to use basic reporting and writing skills for a variety of stories. Students and instructor will prepare the reading list collaboratively and study writing in different journalistic contexts: news briefs, features, editorials, arts reviews, columns, and blogging.
