I address this note especially to Truman and City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) students, as the following developments relate directly to the quality of your education.
Chancellor Wayne Watson has directed all CCC presidents against re-hiring retired faculty who honored the recent Local 1600 strike. According to Union Chapter Chair Anthony Johnston, "retirees who did not cross the picket line will not be allowed to teach again in the system."
These punitive measures violate the Union's "No Reprisals" clause, additionally heaping disrespect on distinguished teachers and likewise punishing students who would benefit from their classes. Such continued, degrading tactics in the wake of the strike go beyond heartless strike-breaking to an especially vindictive brand of thuggishness.
For more details on reprisals to date, including info on what you can do, see the City Colleges Strike archive.
